日本近現代史の資料の宝庫、朝日新聞データベース
新聞は１日過ぎると古新聞と呼ばれますが、古新聞を蓄積したものは、古くなればなるほど貴重な歴史的資料になります。新聞は時代をよく映し、過去の出来事を調べるのに役に立ちます。そんな新聞記事を探すのに便利な朝日新聞のオンラインデータベース「聞蔵IIビジュアル」(http://database.asahi.com/library2e/)を紹介します。記事テキストに加え、紙面や写真・図表を含む切り抜きイメージが見られるデータベースです。１９４５年からきょうまでの新聞記事が調べられます。すでに、約９００の大学図書館・公共図書館で利用されています。ヨーロッパ、北米、アジア、オセアニアの大学図書館、国立図書館で、近現代を代表する日本メディアとしてご利用いただいています。
『進化するデータベース』聞蔵IIは、２０１０年４月に大きく変わります。明治、大正、昭和初期の紙面イメージを追加して、日本国内最大級の新聞記事データベースになります。１８７９年～１９４４年（明治１２年～昭和１９年）が加わり、創刊号からきょうまでの１３０年分の新聞記事が検索できるようになります。東京朝日新聞とともに、大阪朝日新聞も収録しますので、１９２３年の関東大震災の記事は大阪朝日新聞でご覧いただけます。
聞蔵IIには写真のコンテンツもあります。創刊１３０周年記念事業の「歴史写真アーカイブ」です。第二次世界大戦中を中心にアジア各地の特派員やカメラマンが撮影した写真から、歴史研究者が選んだ資料価値の高い１万枚をデータベースに収録しました。撮影地はアジア（旧満州国、ベトナム、太平洋諸島など）とヨーロッパ（ドイツ、イギリスなど）を含みます。さまざまなジャンルを対象に、市民生活の様子も記録されています。 このデータベースを紹介させていただき光栄に思います。聞蔵IIが、みなさまの研究に役に立つことを希望しています。
The Asahi Shimbun Online Newspaper Database: A Treasury of Modern Japanese History
After one day, a newspaper is called "furu-shimbun", literally "old paper". But when the old newspapers are collected in volume, they become precious historical resources. Newspapers are one of the more valuable resources that convey time. They also serve as a referencing point to find out about past incidents.
In order to search newspaper articles, I would like to introduce The Asahi Shimbun Online Newspaper Database "Kikuzo II Visual" (http://database.asahi.com/library2e/), which allows users to look up articles presented in a newspaper format including photos and graphics. The database now contains articles from 1945 thru to the present time, and is subscribed to by over 900 universities and public libraries nationwide. The database is also accessed by university and national libraries outside Japan, including Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania.
Kikuzo II will undergo a big overhaul in April 2010 as an "evolving database". Kikuzo II Visual will become the largest nation-wide newspaper database in Japan. It will contain newly added images of the printed papers from the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras. Users can search for articles published by the Asahi Shimbun over the past 130 years, including both the Tokyo edition and the Osaka edition, and will this be able to consult articles on the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 in the Osaka edition.
To commemorate the company's 130th anniversary, "Historical Photo Archive" was launched. This archive offers approximately 10,000 photos from between 1930 and 1945. The photos were mostly taken in Asia (Manchuria, Vietnam, Pacific Ocean Islands, etc.) and Europe (Germany, England, etc.) in the 1930s and throughout the Second World War period. The photographs present a wide variety of subjects and genres, depicting cities, industries, markets, people and cultures, and some of them contain sceneries and people affected by the war. We are honored to be given the opportunity to introduce this database, and hope it will contribute to your research.
